Free Online Webcam Test
Check your camera in your browser before a meeting, interview, or recording. See your live preview, resolution, frame rate, and which device the system is actually using.

What it shows
Live previewConfirms the camera is producing frames, not a black square.
ResolutionDetects whether you're at 1080p, 720p, or fallback 480p (a common surprise on multi-camera Macs).
Frame rateMost calls assume 30fps. Some integrated cams run at 15fps in low light.
Device pickerLists all connected cameras so you can pick the right one before the call.
The five-minutes-before-a-call problem
Most webcam issues happen because something else is holding the camera (Zoom from yesterday, an open FaceTime window, Photo Booth) or because System Settings switched to a different camera after you plugged in an external monitor. The browser test surfaces both immediately — if the preview is black, your OS is using the camera somewhere else.
Other quick fixes
- Allow camera access in the browser permission prompt.
- Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable your browser.
- Quit any app that might be holding the camera, then refresh this page.
- External webcam? Unplug, wait 5 seconds, reconnect.
Recording with that webcam?
If you're testing your camera ahead of recording a screen demo, ShipClip records your screen and webcam together on Mac with real-time background removal — no green screen needed. Camera appears as a draggable picture-in-picture, and you can reposition it on the timeline after recording.
